Melasma is a common skin condition specifically found in women whose hormones (estrogen and progesterone) surge, causing the skins melanocytes to overproduce in patch-like formations on the skin. These formations are darker then the skin and look very similar to hyperpigmentation, however this condition is very different as it is hormone induced. Common areas of the face that melasma will be focused on is the upper cheeks, nose, lips, upper lip, and forehead. Genetics plays a role in this for women and will be common in pre-menopausal women. There are various methods to dealing with hormonal hyperpigmentation. We offer peels specific for this condition as well as proper skincare, bleaching serums and oral supplements.
